How to Determine the Service Life of a Road Roller

Apr 20, 2026

1. Usage Frequency and Cumulative Working Time

According to industry standards, a road roller's lifespan is typically capped at 2000 hours per year, totaling approximately 20,000 hours over 10 years.

After 5000 hours, key components (such as the traction shaft and hydraulic system) experience accelerated wear, requiring focused inspection.

2. Harshness of the Working Environment

High temperatures, high humidity, dust, or corrosive environments accelerate metal fatigue and oil system aging, shortening equipment lifespan.

Long-term use in high-load operations such as breaking old road surfaces and filling hard aggregate can easily lead to premature fatigue damage to structural components.

3. Adequate Maintenance

Regularly changing engine oil, filters, and hydraulic oil, and checking transmission system clearances, can significantly extend the lifespan.

Equipment lacking maintenance may experience premature aging even with a short service life.

4. Wear and Tear of Core Components

Engine: Smooth operation without abnormal noises, and no abnormal blue or black smoke from the exhaust.

Hydraulic System: No leaks, stable pressure, and normal oil temperature (generally below 85℃).

Steel Wheels/Tires: No cracks or deformation; tire tread depth has not reached the wear indicator (usually 6mm is the critical replacement point).

Vibration Bearings and Vibration Damperes: No abnormal noises, normal temperature, and no significant decrease in vibration damping effect.

✅ Tip: Historical operating conditions can be determined by reviewing equipment operation logs and maintenance records. Actual usage intensity is often more valuable than the number of years.
