What are the precautions for single drum roller compactor operation?

Nov 15, 2024

1. Before operation
Check the equipment: Carefully check all parts of the roller, including the engine, hydraulic system, brake system, steel wheel, vibration system, etc., to ensure that they are in good working condition. Check whether there is looseness, wear, leakage, etc. If there is any problem, it should be repaired or replaced in time. Check whether the lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, fuel oil, etc. are sufficient to ensure that the equipment will not be damaged due to lack of oil during operation. Check whether the various indicator lights and instruments on the dashboard are normal to understand the operating status of the equipment.
Be familiar with the site: Before operation, you should be familiar with the terrain, landforms and surrounding environment of the construction site, understand the obstacles, underground pipelines, etc. in the site, and avoid collisions or damage to underground facilities during operation. Determine the compaction requirements and compaction sequence of the construction area, and formulate a reasonable construction plan.
Safety protection: Operators should wear personal protective equipment such as safety helmets, work clothes, safety shoes, etc. to ensure their own safety.
Check whether the safety devices of the roller, such as brakes, handbrakes, guardrails, etc., are intact to ensure the safety of the equipment during operation.
2. During operation
Starting and preheating: Start the roller engine according to the correct starting procedure. After starting, let the engine idle for a period of time to preheat so that the engine and hydraulic system reach normal operating temperature. During the preheating process, pay attention to the various indicator lights and instruments on the dashboard to ensure that the equipment is operating normally.
Driving operation: When operating the roller, start slowly and avoid sudden acceleration and sudden braking. According to the conditions of the construction site, choose a suitable driving speed. Generally, the driving speed during compaction should not be too fast. During driving, pay attention to the surrounding environment to avoid collisions with other equipment or personnel. At the same time, pay attention to keep the roller running smoothly to avoid bumps and shaking.
Compacting operation: When performing compaction operations, select appropriate compaction parameters such as vibration frequency, amplitude, driving speed, etc. according to the type, thickness and compaction requirements of the compacted material.
During the compaction process, the steel wheel should maintain good contact with the compacted material to avoid leakage or overpressure. Different compaction methods and sequences should be used for different compaction areas to ensure uniform compaction effects. Pay attention to the compaction effect. If you find that the compaction is insufficient or excessive, you should adjust the compaction parameters in time.
Steering operation: When operating the roller to turn, you should turn the steering wheel slowly to avoid sharp turns. During the steering process, pay attention to the surrounding environment to avoid collisions with other equipment or personnel.
For different steering methods, such as front-wheel steering, all-wheel steering, etc., you should choose the appropriate steering method according to the actual situation to ensure safe operation.
Braking operation: During the operation, the brake and handbrake should be used in time as needed to ensure the safety of the equipment. When braking, the brake pedal should be pressed slowly to avoid sudden braking and causing the equipment to lose control. When parking, the roller should be parked on a stable ground and the handbrake should be pulled up to prevent the equipment from sliding.
3. After operation
Shutdown and cleaning: After completing the compaction operation, the roller engine should be shut down according to the correct shutdown procedure. After stopping, the engine should be allowed to idle for a period of time to allow the engine and hydraulic system to gradually cool down. Clean the steel wheels, fuselage, cab and other parts of the roller, remove attached dirt, dust and other debris, and keep the equipment clean.
Inspection and maintenance: Perform a comprehensive inspection of the roller, including the wear, tightness, and lubrication of each component. If there is any problem, it should be repaired or replaced in time. Perform regular maintenance on the equipment, such as replacing lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, filters, etc., to ensure the performance and life of the equipment.
Safe storage: If the roller needs to be stored for a long time, it should be stored in a dry, ventilated, and safe place. Park the equipment on a flat surface and pull up the handbrake to prevent the equipment from sliding.
Cover the equipment to prevent sun, rain, and dust erosion. At the same time, the stored equipment should be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure that the equipment can operate normally when needed.
In short, it is crucial to keep these precautions in mind when operating a single drum roller compactor. Strictly complying with the operating specifications can not only ensure safe and efficient construction, but also extend the service life of the equipment and reduce maintenance costs.
