What are the operating techniques for a road roller?

Jan 07, 2026

I. Basic Operation
Starting and Driving: First, check the instruments. After confirming they are normal, engage a low gear and smoothly push the reversing lever. Keep the steering wheel stable when driving straight, and pay attention to the turning radius when turning.

Steering and Braking: When turning, first move the reversing lever to the neutral position, and then change direction after the road has come to a complete stop. When braking, first depress the main clutch, then depress the brake pedal.

II. Vibration Compaction Techniques
Vibration Selection: Select the high or low frequency setting according to the road conditions. The low frequency setting is suitable for loose materials, and the high frequency setting is suitable for smooth roads.

Water Spraying System: Set continuous or intermittent water spraying as needed to avoid wheel sticking.

III. Safety Operating Points
Starting and Stopping: Before starting, check all systems. When stopping, stop the vibration first, then stop the car.

Driving on Slopes: When going uphill, engage a low gear with the drive wheels at the rear; when going downhill, engage a low gear to avoid high-speed driving.

Joint Operations: When multiple road rollers are operating, the distance between them should be greater than 3 meters.

IV. Operational Differences Between Different Models

Impact Roller: Uses staggered-drum compaction; speed controlled at 10-15 km/h.

Vibratory Roller: The main clutch must be disengaged before changing travel speed.
